Toyota Key Fob Repair – How to Fix a Fob That Won’t Work

Take the key Fob out of your ignition and notice the sharp protruding notch in its base. Use a Phillips screwdriver to carefully pry off the two small plastic halves from the other side of the fob. Slide the battery from the hole in the top of the fob and insert the new one.

Line the edges of the fob with your fingertips and place a marker or pen under the hole. Now, slide the battery in the opening and secure it to ensure that it does not move. Make sure to align the holes in both halves of your Toyota Key Fob and line them up. Press them together firmly and slowly slide the fob down the hole.

On the bottom side, you will find a screw holding the plastic pieces together. If you are confident enough with the way you are working, you may decide to replace the entire plastic part. However, if you are inexperienced or careless, then you might want to leave it as is and continue to repair the damaged area by hand. Once the screws are undone, insert the batteries into the holes. Replace the screws on the same side of the fob and put the screws on top of the holes so that they can be locked.

The next step is to install the second screw and put on the battery back into the fob. Secure the screws with the screws on top of the holes. This will prevent the screw from being able to rotate while driving. Then insert the screws into the holes and turn the plug clockwise. When the fob is fully secured, put on the key fob covers. Make sure that you do not forget to tighten the screw before removing the covers. Put back the covers before reattaching the screws.

To test your fob, plug in your car to check whether it works. If you have trouble starting the car, check the wiring to make sure that it is in good condition. If your battery is not working, use an external DC adapter in order to power your key fob.

The fob should now work as good as new again. If you have troubleshooting experience, you should be able to troubleshoot problems that have been present in the past and can correct them in your own Toyota Key Fob.

The job may not always be fixed to perfection. However, it will usually be fixed with a little effort and a few hours of your time.
